Wednesday, June 13, 2018 - Day 4 of our trip. We arrived in Sitka at around 8:00 in the morning and departed around 4:00 that afternoon. Our excursion was scheduled for the morning so we ate breakfast in our stateroom and then departed for the Sea Otter and Wildlife Quest. Lunch was at a restaurant in Sitka, with large portions (which seems the norm for so many restaurants - large portions and overpriced food). Neither of us fnished our meal even though I gave mine a good try.
Our afternoon was spent onboard the ship doing a little exploring and enjoying an afternoon concert at the Lincoln Center Stage (our favorite hangout). The quintet played a series of compositions by American Composers, with Gershwin and Copeland being the two I remember. Their rendition of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue was unbelieveable, Margaret mentioned that the music was so inspiring that it almost brought tears to her eyes. I concur. How 3 violins, a cello, and a piano could not only sound so large but also blend so well into such an unbelievable performance is beyond me.
The evening's dinner dress was "smart casual" which on our ship meant jeans and a long sleeve cotton shirt for me and similar attire for Margaret.
Sea Otter & Wildlife Quest
The obvious lack of photos is because either we didn't see any otters (they were floating on their backs with barely a nose showing in most cases) or they very briefly appeared and then disappeared before I could grab a picture. The same is true for whales, I captured a couple of "spouts" but not any whale body so I just decided to not put whale spouts on the website. Hence, I added a couple of Sitka, not excursion, photos to the mix.
